Hikes of Provo!

 Y Mountain

Length: 2.4 miles round trip (to the Y)

Description: The hike up to the Y is fairly steep, but there is a very clear path that is easy to find an walk up. The view of the Provo area and Utah Lake is phenomenal! If you go up there after the sun sets, make sure you lay upside down on the white concrete Y and be amazed by the beauty of Provo.

If you are interested in a longer hike, at the top of the Y there is a trail leading South(to the right) that will take you to the top of the mountain. The hike to the top of the mountain takes about 3-5 hours.

Directions: Start by driving on 900 E towards 820 N. Turn east(so you’re facing the mountain) on 820 N and continue until the road bends left and changes into Oakmont Lane. Continue on Oakmont Lane and turn right on Oakcliff Drive. Turn right onto Terrace Drive, and follow the signs to the Y mountain parking lot.

Timpanogos Falls

Length: About 2 miles out and back

Description: This is a very easy scenic hike that will take you to a beautiful waterfall. It is a well-used trail and on weekends is likely to have a lot of other people hiking it.

This is a great hike because there are many waterfalls along the trail, getting to the first one then coming back is about a 2 mile trip, but if you are feeling more adventurous, the trail goes for about 6 miles to the top of the mountain.

Directions: First, travel towards Provo Canyon on Highway 189 and turn left at State Road 92. This road will take you past Sundance Resort, continue up the road (the road will be winding) past Aspen Grove Family Camp and about half a mile later there will be a parking lot. Park!

Squaw Peak
Length: 6 miles (3-4 hours)

Description: Squaw Peak is a popular hiking spot on weekends. The trail starts out paved, then turns to a rocky trail, then after crossing over 5 bridges, there is a trail marker pointing to the left, follow the trail through beautiful forest and meadow to the top of the mountain to get a great view of Utah Lake, and Timpanogos Peak.
Be careful if it has rained recently, it will be very muddy!

Directions: Go to the Provo Temple, and drive towards the mountain. Make sure the Provo temple is on your right. Drive up that road, and as the road curves right you will see a parking lot straight ahead. Drive into the parking lot, and continue towards the mountain, and you will see the trailhead!

  1. Indian Road Trailhead is a great place to hike. You can take it north all the way to Bridal Veil Falls, it is relatively close to campus, and there are usually not very many people. If you head North on Canyon Rd just as you go down the hill to connect to University Avenue there is a small road to heading east, at the top of that road is where you can find this hike. There is a paved parking lot, restrooms, two picnic tables, and a small grassy area.
